London Video

This is out of sequence, coming as it does towards the end of the trip, but it's the only decent video I shot, and I felt like posting it now.  Mary and I were crossing the Thames when Big Ben began striking noon.  Three bells had rung before I got the camera running, but trust me, it was noon.  I was pleasantly surprised by how well the mic on my little camera picked up the sound.

Only in the last ten seconds can we see that this was NOT shot in black and white. That was my experience in London, too: the city is gray, the skies are gray, and everyone wears black or brown. I was obviously American in my softly colorful shirts.

Birdie, you know, the funny thing is, I remember this day as rather sunny and beautiful. Maybe it cleared up later, or maybe the camera is having to adjust to a greater constrast or something. Nonetheless, I know what you mean, and that grayness was part of what I found so hard to deal with the when we lived there for my tenth year. New York in Winter is much the same actually; sometimes I'll look around a subway car in December and think it looks like we're all going to a funeral. I think city life, with the extra grime, may make darker clothes more appealing.
